While the Ford and Allison transmissions are significantly heavier than the Dodge, they both support engines much more powerful than Cummins current 6.7L. Dodge has not made available the maximum input torque rating of their new transmission, but the 68RE has the same strength designation "8" as the 48RE (Chrysler rates their transmissions on a scale of 1 - 9, 9 being the strongest). The new Ford TorqShift is rated to handle significantly higher torque levels. Preference aside, all new diesel truck owners can celebrate - all 3 automakers are finally offering heavy duty, 6 speed DIESEL transmissions behind their powerplants.
